'The O.C.' Spawns Soundtrack Series
The runaway hit Fox drama "The O.C." will cross over into the music world with a series of soundtracks to be released this year on Warner Bros. "Mix 1" of "Music From The O.C." arrives March 30, with several additional titles filled with tunes utilized in the show expected throughout 2004. The show airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET, and is now preceded by the latest season of "American Idol."
"Mix 1" will feature selections from Phantom Planet (the show's theme song, "California"), Joseph Arthur, Spoon, Jet, South, Doves, Dandy Warhols, Turin Brakes and the pairing of William Orbit and Finley Quaye. Unsigned acts the 88 and Alexi Murdoch are also included.
Buyers who place the CD in a computer hooked up to the Internet will be able to access a secure Web site to see the scenes in which the songs were used. The show's cast will also provide commentary on how the music affected the scenes and which artists they are currently enjoying. The actors are expected to appear next month on MTV's "TRL."
